Ride: Kuala Lumpur - Surat Thani, Thailand

Kuala Lumpur - Surat Thani, Thailand (11/2/2010)

Heyya..

This is the first ride report for my Phnom Penh, Cambodia trip.. the adventure started on 11th February 2010 and reached back in Kuala Lumpur on 21st February 2010.. the journey took us for 11 days to ride across 3 countries: Malaysia, Thailand and Cambodia..

The destinations will be:

Kuala Lumpur - Surat Thani - Aranya Prathet - Siem Reap (Cambodia) - Phnom Penh (Cambodia, 2 nights) - Pattaya (2 nights) - Hua Hin - Hatyai (2 nights) - Kuala Lumpur

On the first day (11th February), I met all my group mates at Petronas R&R Rawang at 6 o'clock in the morning.. filled up the tank to the fullest and started our journey to Surat Thani, Thailand..

We reached Thai-Malaysia border control at 11am and refilled the fuel tank as fuel in Malaysia is cheap.. we had lunch in Dannok, Sadao and i also bought DTAC Happy Thailand handphone sim card.. it will make my calls easier and cheaper to my other riding mates in Thailand in case if we split up..

We've continued our ride to Surat Thani via Route 4.. it is advisable not to ride fast in Thailand as road users make U-turns along the motorway and i like Thai motorists as they always follow road regulations.. as a biker, you will feel safe and secured riding in Thailand than in Malaysia..

Within 45 minutes later, we've reached Hatyai but we didn't enter the city.. we rode to Phattalung and made fuel refilling at Khuan  Khanun..

We've reached Thung Song at late afternoon for a quick refreshment.. some of the riders had to refill their tanks...

Then we've continued our ride to Surat Thani via Route 41... we reached Surat Thani in the evening and checked-in at Grand Thara Hotel.. it costs 400 Baht per night for a single queen bed room..

for dinner, we've headed to its Pier.. there are many tourists having dinner and drinks here before they get boarded into ferries heading to Koh Samui and Koh Phangan.. i was told the night ferry provides beds as it arrives on the 2 islands in the morning.. the Pier is a totally recommended place to be in the late evening with mates..

From Kuala Lumpur to Surat Thani, i've clocked almost 870 km of distance..

HooRahh!!
